PTZ camera tours

Last modified: Wednesday March 04, 2026.

For pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, you can link a series of preset positions and create an automated camera tour that cycles through the position in a Video view pane.

Users require specific permissions to operate PTZ cameras and configure tours. See PTZ camera tours.

PTZ presets configured using physical movements and zoom are available to all users. Presets that include digital zoom are usable only by the user that creates them.

Create a PTZ Camera tour

Each camera is limited to 50 presets and 10 tours. Each tour is limited to 50 steps.

  1. From the toolbar, open new tool button > video view button Video view.
  2. Open a saved view containing a PTZ camera or drag a PTZ camera to a view pane.
  3. Hover over the pane and click video view presets button Presets and tours and select Tours > + Manage tours.
  4. Click add new tour button Add new tour.
  5. Enter a name.
  6. Choose the required tour Mode:
    1. Sequential: The camera moves to each preset in the order listed.
    2. Random: The camera moves to each preset once in a random order.
  7. Configure the camera position and movement for each step in the tour:
    1. Use the COORDINATES/PRESETS dropdown to assign each position of the tour.
      1. To manually add a position, select + Add coordinates / preset, move the camera, and click Add. If required, select Save as preset.
      2. To use a preset position, select it from the list.
      3. To delete a preset, click delete tour position.
      4. A tour needs at least two positions.
    2. For each position, set:
      1. MOVE SPEED: The speed the camera moves to the position as a percentage of the camera's maximum move speed.
      2. DWELL PERIOD: How long the camera remains at the position before moving to the next.
    3. To preview the tour, click Preview.
  8. Click Done.

Set a default PTZ tour

You can set a default tour that runs continuously. If a user or alarm takes control of the camera, it restarts the default tour after it receives no movement instructions within its Idle period.

Setting a default tour removes any set default position. See Default and preset PTZ camera positions.

  1. From the toolbar, open new tool button > video view button Video view.
  2. Open a saved view containing a PTZ camera or drag a PTZ camera to a view pane.
  3. Hover over the pane and click video view presets button Presets and tours and select Tours.
  4. Hover over the required tour and click set default tour button Set as default.
  5. To unset the default tour, hover over it and click set default tour button.
