Add speakers to the Alta Platform

Last modified: Wednesday September 24, 2025.

There are three ways to add speakers to Alta Video or Alta Protect:

  • Use an Avigilon Alta cloud-native speaker.
  • Use an Avigilon Alta cloud-native camera with analog speaker outputs, or an Axis or other ONVIF-compliant camera with analog speaker outputs.
  • Use a stand-alone IP speaker.

Adding an analog speaker to an existing Avigilon Alta cloud-native camera, or to an Axis or other ONVIF camera (that includes a line-out audio capability) that already has a license does not require any additional licensing.

However, setting up a stand-alone IP speaker requires a new license to be purchased.

Task — Add a speaker using its QR code or Alta Key

  1. Connect the speaker in accordance to its installation instructions.
  2. From the toolbar, open new tool button > devices button Devices.
  3. Hover over devices button Devices and select Speakers.
  4. Click add devices button and select Scan QR code.
  5. Scan the QR code for the speaker.
    1. If you do not have a webcam connected to the computer used to access your Alta apps, you can enter the device's Alta Key.
    2. To add multiple devices, scan the QR code or enter the Alta Key of each device.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Enter a Name for the device.
  8. If required, change the device group.
  9. Select any required Labels.

Task — Add a camera-connected speaker using network discovery

Add a speaker that is connected to an Avigilon Alta cloud-native camera, or add speakers connected to Axis or other ONVIF-compliant cameras.

Axis or other thrid-party ONVIF-compliant cameras must be added via an Avigilon Alta Cloud Connector

You should update the firmware on your third-party devices before adding them to Alta Video.

  1. From the toolbar, open new tool button > devices button Devices.
  2. Hover over devices button Devices and select Speakers.
  3. Click Add speaker and select Discover camera speakers.
  4. From the required site, select the speaker.
  5. Choose Next.

  7. If required, change the SPEAKER NAME. By default, the speaker name matches the camera name.
  8. To associate cameras covering areas close to the speaker, select them from the ASSOCIATED CAMERAS field. Associated cameras include audio announcement controls in the Video view tool.
  9. To play a test sound, click Play test sound.
  10. Choose Add.

Task — Add an IP speaker

To add an IP speaker to Alta Video, connect it to an Avigilon Alta Cloud Connector.
